Bene E. Madunagu

Bene E. Madunagu is the General Coordinator of Development Alternatives for Women in a New Era (DAWN). She is a Professor of Botany at the University of Calabar in Nigeria, a veteran feminist activist and campaigner for women’s rights with particular interest in sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women. She is a Human Sexuality and Gender Consultant/Educator/Trainer, and Co-Founder and Chair of the Executive Board Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI),Nigeria.

She won the MacArthur Fund for Leadership award in 1994 in Nigeria, is Chairperson, Board of trustees of International Center for Sexual and Reproductive rights (INCRESE), Nigeria, Calabar International Centre for Research, Information and Documentation, Member, Board of directors of IPAS, and Board Chair, Baobab for Women’s Human Rights.
