Shamillah is a Consultant. She served as the Young Women and Leadership Programme Manager for the Association of Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) from 2001-2006. Shamillah is a founding Board Member of the Youth Against AIDS Network, a regional network of youth leaders in Africa and acts as a member of the Advisory Council for the Africa Region for the Global Fund for Women. She is also the Founder and Director for the HIV/AIDS Learners’ Network of the Western Cape, a group that builds young people’s leadership from a gendered perspective to enable them to fight HIV/AIDS. She gained extensive networking, coordination and communication experience in the South African women’s movement including the: African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town (UCT), the Commission on Gender Equality (CGE) and the Speakers’ Forum of South African Legislatures. Shamillah co-edited ‘Defending our Dreams: Global Feminist Voices for New Generation, which was published by ZED books in 2005.
